Page break before: This function inserts a page break before the paragraph, meaning the paragraph is always at the top of the page.The options here range from 1.0, which adds no extra space between lines, to 3.0, where the spacing for each line is triple that of a single-spaced line. If you choose single line spacing, the space between lines will be 12 points. For example, say you’re using a 12 point font for the text in your paragraph. Click the Line and Paragraph Spacing button. In Word, line spacing is most commonly measured in multiples of whatever font size the paragraph is using. Keep lines together: This function ensures that the paragraph is not split between two pages and always appears as a complete unit on the next page. Select the paragraph or paragraphs you want to adjust.Keep with next: If you select this option, Word treats this paragraph and the next one as a single unit.
Widow/orphan control: This function prevents a single line of a paragraph from appearing at the top or bottom of a page.If you switch to the second tab in the options dialog box (“Line and Page Breaks”), you have additional pagination options: Adjust the Before and After settings to change spacing between paragraphs. Once again, you can do this under “Line and paragraph spacing” in Word on the “Home” tab, where you have the option of inserting (and removing) additional spacing or using the “Line spacing options.” Then enter a font size to set the distance between paragraphs. Select Line Spacing Options and choose an option in the Line spacing box. In Word, you can insert the spacing either before or after the paragraph-or both. Select the text with the line spacing that needs to be changed. For example, to set the line spacing to 2.5, select Multiple and write 2.5 in the At field.

Word will not adjust the spacingbetween lines when you increase the font size. (Optional Step) Select the Show/Hide button in the Paragraph group to show paragraph break symbols and other formatting that may affect line spacing (see figure 2). Line spacing value for the this option is set in points. Select the Home tab in the ribbon (see figure 1). This keeps the paragraph together from a purely visual standpoint. Advanced Method: Adjust Line Spacing from the Paragraph Dialog Box. To improve the appearance and clarity of the text, the line spacing after the last line of a paragraph should be larger than the spacing within the paragraph. Line indents and spacing After adding a numbered list, you probably notice a few things: Word indents the list a quarter of an inch to the right of the left margin. This setting formats the paragraph with one blank line below each line of text. Use this command to remove other line-spacing styles. Word also has a special feature for changing the spacing between paragraphs. Three keyboard shortcuts are available for the most common line spacing values: To single-space, press Ctrl+1.
